An update on where things stand in the pet shipping industry in light of the Coronavirus pandemic…
The month of March been an absolute whirlwind and as the spread of the coronavirus has continued to grow and global panic continued to rise, the pet shipping industry is one that has been brought to its knees during this time. One by one, countries began to close their borders and airlines imposed complete embargoes on all live animal shipments leaving us scrambling to get possible new routes/airlines to assist in getting already scheduled pets to their necessary destinations.

We want to reiterate that although it has been proven that pets cannot transmit the Coronavirus to a human, airlines were having to place the embargoes on their transportation due to the fact that so many flights were being canceled at the last minute and most airlines transport the pets via their Hubs (be it in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Doha, Dubai, etc.) and with no guarantee of when the next flight would be, the airlines could not run the risk of accepting the pets and having them stuck in their Hubs for days on end. This is completely understandable and whilst it was a difficult pill to swallow, it was all in the best interest of the pets.
We were doing all that we could within the limited airlines that were still accepting live animals, however, earlier this week, it was announced that from midnight on Thursday the 26th of March, South Africa will undergo a forced lockdown that everyone needs to remain at home for the duration of the lockdown. Only essential services are allowed to continue to operate.

Whilst the admin team at AeroPets are going to remain open and will be working from home, our operations will be completely closed until the lockdown has been lifted. The admin staff will be available to answer your mails, questions and will do our best to help in any way that we possibly can. We plan to take this time to plan and prepare for when the airlines lift their embargoes and things can return to “business as usual”.

We need to bring to your attention that, as airlines are not accepting any pets at the moment, we are unable to get updated rates from them. For any quoting and revisions needed, we will only be able to work off of the March rates so any quotes that you get from us henceforth will be a price guideline, only and will most definitely need to be updated once things return to normal.

We understand that things are very uncertain and stressful right now and many will be left disappointed during this time but our hands are completely tied and all we can do is weather this storm, assist as much as possible within the confines we have been placed and hope that airlines and flights, etc. return to normal as soon as possible.
Please feel free to reach out to us should you have any questions. We will continue to update you all on any changes as soon as we are made aware of them. We are here to help.
Until then, keep safe, keep well and go hug your fur-baby – it’s free therapy!! 😊🐶😸
